Held at the hub of the Scandinavian fashion industry, Copenhagen Fashion Week has increasingly become more accustomed to international press coverage over recent seasons. The recognition stems from their commitment to sustainability within the industry, which has been driven by the CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week, Cecile Thorsmark.

Thorsmark has been proactive in voicing her concerns with the fashion industry, expressing the need of more environmentally responsible fashion weeks. It was announced earlier this week that participating designers in CPHFW would have to comply with their new ambitious Sustainability Action Plan 2020-2022. The new policy aims to ensure sustainable measures and to meet a zero-waste goal by 2023.

Thorsmark stated that:

“We need to rethink and reinvent the role of fashion weeks. We’re already witnessing the devastating impacts of climate change, so anyone in the industry needs to transition and change the way business is done and do this urgently. Fashion weeks are no exception”
