Move over Apple Music users, it’s the ‘Spotify Wrapped’ time of year.

Every year since 2016, Spotify has been compiling our personal top artists, genres, songs, podcasts, and Spotify listening time. But this year, the streaming service has launched a new unique feature – your ‘listening personality’, and here’s how it works.

Spotify’s 2022 Wrapped, the newest of its yearly digital experiences that explore the data of your musical preferences for the year, debuted last week. For 2022, there were additional features like a tracker of your musical mood swings throughout the day and a Myers-Briggs-style “listening” personality type.

Four parameters are used to assess each user’s personality traits, according to a blog post on the Spotify website:

Familiarity (F) vs. Exploration (E)
Loyalty (L) vs. Variety (V)
Timelessness (T) vs. Newness (N)
Commonality (C) vs. Uniqueness (U)

Spotify must compare the measurements to identify which letters make up your personality in order to assign you an official personality type. As for figuring out the other letters in your personality type, Spotify has to determine if you listen to brand new music right when it comes out (Newness), or if you prefer the classics (Timelessness), and if you listen to mostly popular artists or if you’re all about the underground. After all that is factored in, you’re gifted with one of the following 16 Listening Personality types:

  • The Adventurer
  • The Early Adopter
  • The Deep Diver
  • The Devotee
  • The Replayer
  • The Connoisseur
  • The Maverick
  • The Fan Clubber
  • The Top Charter
  • The Enthusiast
  • The Time Traveler
  • The Musicologist
  • The Nomad
  • The Voyager
  • The Jukeboxer
  • The Specialist

Check yours out and go to the Spotify site to find the breakdowns of what each personality means.

Audio Day is an interactive story that shows listeners how their music tastes change throughout the day. According to Spotify, this function “estimates the mood or emotion based on the music listened to at different times of the day.”

If you are still having trouble locating your Wrapped, it’s possible that you haven’t used Spotify frequently enough to gather enough information to produce a customized recap. Users must stream at least 30 tracks for longer than 30 seconds as well as at least five artists between January 1 and early November in order to be eligible for Wrapped. If you received a personalized Wrapped recap, you have until January 13 to access it.
