Chanel designer Virginie Viard set the tone for the spring/summer 2021 Haute Couture show by channelling a celebration of family, throwing a glamorous folklore wedding where her models debuted movable party wear underneath arches of flowers.
“I love big family reunions, when the generations all come together. It’s so warm. There’s this spirit at Chanel today. Because Chanel is also like a family,” – Viard
With France under COVID-19 restrictions, Chanel, like other labels, shared a video online of its show at a time when traditional catwalk presentations, usually heaving with editors, buyers and influencers, are not possible.
Held at the Paris’ Grand Palais, actresses including Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Lily-Rose Depp, all Chanel ambassadors, watched from spaced out chairs as models walked amongst an array of delicate floral designs onto a catwalk filled with petals and fairy lights.
