Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent are teaming up to bring the story of his murder trial to Starz.

A Moment in Time: Murder Was the Case, a working title, is currently in development and executive produced by the two hip-hop heavyweights. The project is the second in an anthology series focusing on the criminal events that occurred behind the scenes in hip-hop history. According to Variety, the film will be set in 1993, during Snoop’s trial for the first-degree murder of Phili Woldermariam. Woldermariam was a rival gang member who murdered McKinley Lee, Snoop’s bodyguard.

Snoop released his debut album Doggystyle and the hit single “Murder Was the Case” around the time of the trial. Despite the fact that the song’s explicit lyrics had a negative impact on his trial, the album’s sales increased to over five million albums as a result of the trial’s publicity. The first season of A Moment in Time will premiere in 2020 and will focus on the feud between 50 Cent and The Game, which eventually led to an all-out street war pitting G-Unit against Jimmy Henchman.

“Murder Was the Case is an incredible storey,” 50 Cent said of Snoop’s storey. Snoop had the country’s best-selling album and was fighting for his freedom in court. G-Unit Film & Television is the only place to go on this incredible ride. I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Snoop on bringing it to television. #GLG.” “This was a pivotal moment in my life and career, and I’ve purposefully waited until I found the right partner to bring this to the screen,” Snoop added. #GLG. You’re about to witness the power of street knowledge.”
