Whilst many nations fight the global pandemic of Covid-19, the rise of the racial pandemic has been seen in the past week. Many individuals protested for George Floyd’s justice yesterday globally, with Hyde Park seeing over 15,000 people support the Black Lives Matter cause.

Many brands are also in support of seeking justice for racial victims, including Nike. On Friday the sportswear brand released a new video campaign, “For Once, Don’t Do It”, twisting their “Just Do It” tagline.

The one minute video message reads: ‘for once, don’t do it. don’t pretend there’s not a problem in America. don’t turn your back on racism. don’t accept innocent lives being taken from us. don’t make any more excuses. don’t think this doesn’t affect you. don’t sit back and be silent. don’t think you can’t be part of the change. let’s all be part of the change.’

This isn’t the first time Nike has been speaking out against racism. In 2018, the brand supported Colin Kaepernick after the former San Francisco 49ers Quarterback knelt during the USA national anthem in protest at a NFL preseason game.

In a time where unity is necessary, Adidas retweeted Nike’s campaign with the caption “Together is how we move forward. Together is how we make change.” Typically the two sports brands are competitors, however it was welcomed by all to see the two household names come together in a time of need.
