RENAISSANCE, Beyoncé’s latest and seventh studio album, has finally arrived after much anticipation, and she’s proclaimed the album to be “a celebration for you,” calling out “all of the pioneers who originate culture”.

Since Lemonade in 2016, she has only released one full-length solo album, RENAISSANCE. The exuberant 16-track record clocks in at just over an hour and features guest appearances from Beam on “ENERGY” and Grace Jones and Tems on “MOVE,” as well as production work from Mike Dean, 070 Shake, The-Dream, Raphael Saadiq, and others.

The album also includes credits for Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, as the track “ENERGY” samples Kelis’ “Get Along With You,” which was produced by the duo, and Sabrina Claudio and Syd as songwriters for the track “PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA,” as well as contributions from Lucky Daye, Honey Dijon, Drake, JAY-Z, and others.

It also acts as the first instalment of a trilogy of albums that have not yet been revealed. “This three-act work was created over the course of the pandemic, which lasted three years. In a letter to her admirers, she described this period as “a time to remain still, but also a time I discovered to be the most creative.” “My goal was to provide a secure environment free from criticism. a spot where perfectionism and overthinking are not allowed. A place where you can shout, let off steam, and feel liberated.”

She also referred to her late uncle Johnny, whom she honoured by dedicating her 2019 GLAAD Vanguard Award, saying that “he was the first person to expose me to a lot of the music and culture that served[d] as inspiration for this album.”

Additionally, Beyoncé declared a “RENAISSANCE” in honour of “all of the fallen angels whose accomplishments have gone too long unrecognised.” I hope you find joy in this music, Beyoncé said in a message of hope to her followers. I’m hoping it motivates you to let go of the jiggle. Ha! And to feel as special, powerful, and alluring as you are.”
