As London ease back into post-lockdown life, there are so many events and places to visit and see. Here are Studio BLUP’s top 5 picks for this weekend.

1. KICK OFF THIS YEAR’S STREET PARTIES

Night Tales is launching The Street this summer: a new street party concept in Hackney Central’s Bohemia Place. Running every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the event will see East London’s largest outdoor terrace extended even further, with a custom-built bar spanning 50ft, music venues, food and drink stalls and plenty of tables under towering palm trees draped in twinkling fairy lights. On hot summer days sip frozen Margaritas or iced craft beers and feast on burgers from Patty and Bun or tasty plates from Only Jerkin’, and come evening dance along to live music (line-up coming soon) for a carnival-esque all-day street party.

New to the craft, a collection of ceramic makers and lovers flock together to sell all their new pieces. From plant pots, wobbly ceramic art, lamps to charismatic face plates.

3. HEAD TO A POP-UP OUTDOOR FESTIVAL

While many of us have exhausted every nook and cranny of our local parks, Underbelly has concocted a plan to zhuzh up Wimbledon Park. For one month from the end of May 2021, StreetEat is taking over the park, bringing together some of London’s best independent street-food traders, open-air bars and live music to create the ultimate outdoor experience. Hop between stalls to snack on sweet and savoury treats from It’s a Wrap, Pabellon Venezuelan Food, Simply Falafel and Kurbside Kitchen before settling down in the open-air seating area to soak up the British sunshine and listen to sets from up-and-coming performers.

4. SEE LYNETTE YIADOM-BOAKYE’S SHOW AT TATE BRITAIN

Normally, you get a bit of time to prepare for the big art exhibitions before they open in London, maybe catch a glimpse of a tube poster, make a mental note. Now they’ve all arrived at once. Do you make time for David Hockney at the RA? Eileen Agar at Whitechapel? Neither. At least for this weekend. The answer is: go and see Lynette Yiadom-Boakye’s solo show ‘Fly in League with the Night’ before it closes on May 31. The enigmatic, skilfully painted figures in Yiadom-Boakye’ work are presented without any story, leaving your mind to fill in the gaps.

5. HAVE A DAY RAVE AT THE CAUSE

Nobody wakes up in the morning and thinks: You know what I’d liked to do today? Have a nice, organised rave where everyone arrives at the allotted time. But that’s where we’re at, and The Cause is getting us as close as we’re going to get to a big blow-out. Yorkshire DJ Grainger is taking over the outdoor ‘greenhouse’ space at The Cause this Saturday. And on Sunday, Motive Hunter Audio will be helping a bunch of Londoners obliterate their end-of-the-weekend fear with ‘ten hours of sounds’. There will be no dancefloor mania, but you’ll still have that lingering stereo-throb in your brain the next day.
