Megan Dent (@meganlucy__x) is a ‘sneakerhead’ who loves the stories and memories that her sneakers bring her. We caught up with Megan on some of her favourite sneakers and what drops she’s looking forward to in 2022.

Pairs: 12

Started Collecting: December 2019

Where did your love of sneakers come from?

It sounds cliché but I’ve always been obsessed with the small details. I remember when I found out the ‘Old Skool’ Vans weren’t just a black and white model- I walked around the shop for 30 minutes taking in the colours and designs.

How did you get involved in the sneaker scene?

It was all through Instagram. I didn’t know there was such a thing as a ‘sneakerhead’ or any kind of community behind it, it was just a personal thing. So when I realised how big it actually was I started following people in that space and through connections I was gradually invited to events and got to really understand the culture and meet more people.

What’s your favourite thing about collecting?

I think it has to be the stories behind the shoes. Every pair I own has a story and memories of where I got it, who I was with and the times I’ve worn them.

What do you look for in the pairs you buy?

I think it all comes down to whether I’m personally drawn to them. It can be easy to get caught up in hype- sometimes shoes are hype for a good reason, sometimes it’s just because there’s a celebrity name attached to them. I try to go with what I genuinely like and what I can see myself wearing and matching with clothes I already own. I don’t want to own a pair only to show off on Instagram, I want something I can genuinely incorporate into my wardrobe.

What’s your favourite pair?

My Sean Cliver dunks. I was in love with the colour the first time I saw them but they were so limited in my size. I remember entering every raffle I could find that had smaller sizes. A few weeks later most had announced that all winners had been contacted so I was sure I hadn’t won. Then the night before my birthday I had a DM from @rufusmilano and the rest I suppose, is history.

The details that are hidden in these shoes- sometimes I honestly get them out just to admire them (is that a sneakerhead thing? I hope it’s not just me.)

Most colourful pair?

Is probably actually a pair I got in a Nike outlet on Staten Island, NY. They’re a pair of reacts with bright, block colours. I wasn’t sure if I wanted them but ended up getting them and I’m so glad I did- they add colour to workout outfits and I always get compliments on them.

Most worn pair?

My Yeezy 700 v2 Cream. They’re comfortable which is so important when you’re out and about. The neutral colour palette of them also means they can go with a lot, from beige outfits to bright pink joggers.

Do you dress kicks or outfit first?

It definitely depends on what the statement piece of the outfit is. If the kicks are the main show then I’ll dress everything from there, but if I have a statement jacket or bright trousers then I’ll make the rest of the outfit work with that and pair the kicks last. It’s a lot to do with colour and the general feel of the outfit for me.

Most looking forward to in 2022?

The kicks I’m most excited for at the moment are the ‘Sail Gum’ Sacai’s, they look so clean and I’m a lover of gum soles. Hopefully also the Canary Yellow Off-White Jordan 1’s as they’ve been delayed so many times.

Joining the sneaker community just before covid means that I’ve made a lot of friends in the community through Instagram that I still haven’t met; overall I’m really just looking forward to having meet-ups again. Collection days and sneaker events are a great chance to see everyone together, meet a load of like-minded people and have a great time (and see a lot of cool kicks in person).
