Apple have just hired Ulrich Kranz, an automotive expert with previous roles as a senior executive at BMW AG’s electric car division, Faraday Future and Canoo. At Apple, he will report to Doug Field who has previously worked as a senior executive at Tesla. Piece all of this together, and it’s becoming more obvious that Apple are creating a car to compete with Tesla.

Apple have been quiet to confirm the rumours, however they have confirmed the new hire of Kranz. There have also been multiple reports that the company have been in conversation with established automakers about signing them as manufactures for a car.

It is thought that they are preparing for a big reveal in 2024, although it may not be sold directly to the public. Apple are renowned for being one-step ahead with their tech and the car will follow suit; last February, reports claimed that the car will be a self-driving vehicle, designed for “last mile” trips, suggesting it’ll be an autonomous shuttle of delivery van. This move will expand the tech-company’s value even further, as they currently sit as the world’s most valuable company at a market capitalisation of more than $2 trillion.
