A collaboration we didn’t see coming this year is between Kanye West and GAP. Last week it was announced the Chicago musician was partnering with the high street brand. Announced on Twitter, he wrote ‘West Day Ever” which will hit stores in 2021. The collab will include everyday staples such as hoodies, cargo pants, quilted jackets and bold accessories.
Whilst we don’t know too much more about the release, we do know that London-based designer Mowalola will be the Design Director of Yeezy GAP.
When West was a teen in Chicago he used to work with GAP at a customer service job, which he refers to in his track “Spaceship” (“Let’s go back, back to the Gap, look at my check, wasn’t no scratch”).
Last week, the covering of the GAP store in Chicago had a message from Kanye on it, here is the first few opening lines.
Thank God
Hi Chicago it’s me
This is [the] Gap store
I used to shop at when
I would drive my Nissan
from the southside
so blessed
I thank god and I am
so humbled at the
opportunity to serve
