Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that the company is building the technical functionality so users display their NFTs and even “mint” some NFTs on Instagram.
At the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas, the Meta CEO discussed his vision for the metaverse, more immersive version of the internet during a long 50 minute conversation with Daymond John.
Meta’s NFT plans aren’t a crazy departure from anyone who’s been keeping up to date with the company’s vision to transition into the metaverse. Therefore, the news is not much of a surprise ever since the company rebranded to Meta.
Despite this, the crystallisation of any NFT features on the app especially since former Meta executive David Marcus said the company was looking into building these alongside the company’s Novi digital wallet last August.
But from Zuckerberg, the main man himself, we now know that work has begun to bring NFTs to Instagram in the “near term”. We can only sit and wait.
