Having only launched in March of last year, the new invite-only Clubhouse app now has grown from 3500 members December 2020 to now over 2 million members worldwide. This surge in numbers was a result of Elon Musk hosting his first audio-chat with Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev.

But what is all the hype about AND how many of you are thinking “oh not another social platform I need to keep on top of…”

Here is everything you need to know!

WHAT IS CLUBHOUSE

Straight out of Silicon Valley and dubbed the ‘next big thing’, Clubhouse is an audio-only social media platform that lets you join often very thought-provoking conversations and topics aligned to your personal interests.

When you join, you are asked to select such topics like tech, books, business or health. The more information you give the app the more individuals the app will suggest you follow and the more conversation rooms will be opened.

The conversation room is just like a conference call, but with some people on the call talking, and most listening in – essentially eavesdropping! Once the conversation is over, the room is closed and essentially the speakers ‘hang-up’. Performances, book clubs, debates and lectures are just some of the ways in which members are utilising the platform – all available to listen into for free with the one rule being that you are not allowed to record anything.

HOW DO I GET AN INVITE

To join, an existing Clubhouse user has to send an invite from their app giving you access to set up an account. If you are invited, you’ll see a link texted to your phone number, directing you to a sign-up page in the app.

Each new member is allocated one invite, and after a while you get three more so if you get invited by an existing member, you can eventually pick up to 4 of your friends to join with you.

WHO’S ON IT

All over the news today you will see headlines stating that Kayne West and Elon Musk are now amongst the extensive list of members currently signed up to the app accompanying the likes of Drake, Oprah, Jared Leto and Chrissy Tiegen. But forgetting the celebs for now, the

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD
