Snowboarding brand Burton is preparing to launch its second and final collaborative collection with the late iconic designer and artistic director Virgil Abloh.
This is notably another creative project going to auction for charity following the first of the Louis Vuitton x Nike Air Force 1s.
After 2 years in the works, the limited-edition collection will feature just 10 snowboards, boots and bindings which will drop on Tuesday 15 March 12:00 PM ET. These exclusive snowboards will be auctioned by the Virgil Abloh™ “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund. $300,000 USD will be donated by Burton across the span of three years to advance BIPOC representation in snowboarding in honour of Virgil’s life.
Following the auction, some snowboards will be made available on the Burton’s website on the 22nd March.
Adrian Josef Margelist, chief creative officer at Burton explains how important it was to Virgil that his next collaboration with Burton “stands for something… so he created a manifesto to guide the collection”.
An excerpt from the Virgil Abloh Burton Manifesto reads “product that by its existence not only stands as evidence for the evolution of a subculture and sport but becomes an artefact which proves that diversity within snowboarding is not only an idea, it’s actually happening, care of Burton and Virgil Abloh.”
The 48 hour auction will be held at GiveSmart pmfbrtn.givesmart.com where bids start at $1,977— highlighting the year Burton was founded (1977).
