London Fashion Week / British Fashion Council

With the world currently in lockdown and social distancing still in full effect, there has been apprehension within the fashion industry about whether the Spring / Summer Collections will be taking place at all this year.

With the news that the upcoming SS21 menswear shows both in Milan and Paris have collectively been postponed this season, London fashion Week was also expected to follow.

However, it was announced earlier this morning, by the British Fashion Council, that London Fashion Week is preparing to go ahead digitally in June. The organisers further revealed their intent to combine both womenswear and menswear fashion displays into one gender-neutral event.

The fashion display is scheduled to take place on June 12 to 14, the same week the Men’s LFW was arranged to run prior to the pandemic. The digital-only event will be available not only to those within the realms of the fashion industry but will also be expanding out to the wider sector of fashion consumers.

Caroline Rush, the chief executive of British Fashion Council, stated:

“The current pandemic is leading us all to reflect more poignantly on the society we live in and how we want to live our lives and build businesses when we get through this. The other side of this crisis, we hope will be about sustainability, creativity and product that you value, respect, cherish.

By creating a cultural fashion week platform, we are adapting digital innovation to best fit our needs today and something to build on as a global showcase for the future.”

Organisers at the British Fashion Council have told us to expect content ranging from interviews and designer diaries, to digital showrooms and webinars.
